Modest Mouse is just, you know, one of those bands - they take some time, but eventually you’ll like them.

The first album I heard was (oddly enough, their first album) This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, and I was immediately turned off. It didn’t click at all. After being unhappy with their musical stylings, I left them alone for years.

In 2004, they released Good News for People Who Love Bad News, and I decided to give them another chance. I loved that album. I was sucked in. I don’t know what changed; was it Modest Mouse, or my own appreciation of music? Who knows. Either way, I really dug it. After getting into Good News, I went back to their back catalog and discovered that, hey, pretty much all their albums are good.

Man, I missed that one big time.

Today’s Song of the Day is “3rd Planet,” from their second album, The Moon and Antarctica.

Enjoy.
