At the Drive-in was a band with members oozing energy out every pore of their bodies. Their live show was unprecedented. Out of the ashes of At the Drive-in, The Mars Volta was born.
That being said, At the Drive-in is one of the reasons I love music today. Before discovering them, my musical interest peaked at “Weird Al” Yankovic. Not to say “Weird Al” is lame, because he’s not, but I didn’t listen to anything but parody until my ears were blown away by ATDI’s explosive sound.
They changed the way I appreciated music, they changed the way I dressed, they changed the way I wrote, they changed the way I thought. At the Drive-in did everything to me a good ol’ Rock ‘n Roll band should - they infected me.
The way I listen to music has never been the same.
Today’s song of the day is “Pattern Against User,” from their groundbreaking last album, Relationship of Command.
Seriously, enjoy.
