Political post, for serious
Even though it would appear otherwise, I do not consider myself that political of a person. Yes, I call myself a liberal and generally agree with the opinions and stances of the Democratic party, but it’s only been that way for 2 years.
For the first 12 years of my life, I would consider myself a believer in Creationism and the holy word as fact. However, over the last 5 or so years of my life, my opinions on the religion I was brought up in, or any religion for that matter, have changed drastically. That isn’t to say the Bible is not one of the most valuable written works to ever be conceived - it holds amazing stories and lessons everyone would be better off knowing. I find it laughable that a majority of the followers of <insert religion here> believe their religion is the one true religion and that they just happened to be born into right one. Lucky them.
Nowadays, I believe that if I go about my life treating others and myself with respect, good spirit, and good morals (of which the Bible teaches in various ways), I will be blessed with whatever comes next - be that the kingdom of heaven, one of its variants, or simply fertilizer for mother nature.
With the passing of the county’s new health care bill, I am alarmed at the number of hateful videos and rallies it has produced. While I am aware that people on my side of the fence created hateful signs like “Kill Bush” during George W’s run, the amount of right-sided, negative propaganda toward Obama in the name of God has me astonished. Do the people that spurt these hateful things toward their brothers and sisters really think there is room in their God’s kingdom for them? Are they so disconnected with the the word they read (literally) religiously every Sunday?
While people shout aloud “no handouts,” may I refer them to a passage from the Bible that speaks loud, clear, and so matter-of-fact it is impossible to misconstrue:
Matthew 25: 34-46 states,
34) Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35) For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36) I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37) Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38) And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39) And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40) And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
41) Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42) For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43) I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44) Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45) Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46) And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Be kind to one another. All of these words were born of this video.
